The New Danish King

Many of you saw the headline on New Year's Eve about how Denmark's beloved queen, Queen Margrethe II, essentially gave her two-week notice during her annual New Year's speech to the country. I think there was kind of a delay as shock set in and like myself, a lot of people were kind of like, "Did she just say what we think  she said?" She did. Queen Margrethe II abdicated the throne today, Sunday, 14 January, 2024, making her son, Crown Prince Frederik, the new Danish king, King Frederik X. There's a lovely article in  The Guardian  about it. Queen Margrethe II after her announcement on NYE (pressdemocrat.com) There is not as much pomp and circumstance around this as there would be in England, and no one has to sit on a throne or wear a heavy crown or anything like that, but that didn't make it any less exciting. hej friends og family this is Harrison today in this story we will be learning about my field trip to a church. The first thing is there is a big ship on the wall. its a very big place and has a lot of important stuff like the Bible which is a very big book. In the book there lies the dark secrets about God and Jesus they er the creators of the world. These are my best friends there names are Riaan and Niko and Ras. This is the priest. The church is a place where weddings and all types of celebrations like the baptisms er done. Me and Nico Since Harrison ran out of steam on his post, I transcribed what he wrote about the church visit at school to wrap it up: Hørsholm church is a very big place. On the inside there is a long book called the Bible. It is a book where the Christians read. There is also a big ship hanging on the ceiling. Our First Danish Christmas and New Year!

Happy New Year, friends and family! God Nytår! This was our first Christmas and New Year's outside the U.S., and I think Zac and I were both worried about whether the kids would enjoy the holidays without being surrounded by friends and family and chaos. We were also not sure how to celebrate. We're in kind of a world between worlds here, if that makes sense. We liked some of our Christmas and New Year's traditions from years past, and it's always comforting to do things that are familiar. On the other hand, we are in a new place with some really fun customs, so we wanted to try out a few of those, too. The result of blending the U.S. and Danish holidays was really nice. Pre-Christmas (21-23 December) The Christmas season wouldn't be complete without cookies!
